Reading Qur’an for the Deceased

I found this a very thorough, informative and academic discussion on an issue which sadly attracts a lot of controversy. The summary is that the majority of scholars are in agreement for it, notably Imam Ahmed b. Hanbal, Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, Imam Ibn Ibn Qudamah Al-Maqdisi amongst others. However, there have been some who disagreed…

Friends

By Waqaar Butt One of the things I find most fascinating about the Arabic language is the use of synonyms to give similar meanings with a touch of nuance. For example, Qur’anic Arabic describes a ‘friend’ in ten (or more) different ways! Something which an English translation will never be able to reflect. I thought…

Quran Club

A year ago, we began the Quran Club, a project among 20 friends to encourage one another to read Quran Daily. The idea was simple: we send half a page of Quran every day along with the audio via facebook, twitter, email & whatsapp. That person then reads it in their own time.

Masjid Musa ibn Naseer

Todays recitation comes from a famous masjid in Nasr City, Musa ibn Naseer. I only managed to catch a short clip of this recitation, but that clip is just awesome! The Qari (reciter) reminds me of the old school Azhari Shuyukh whose soul would live and breathe every word they recited. Here was a man…
